NextGen Taskforce final policy report on a Digital Duty of Care in Australia released
The auIGF NextGen Taskforce have now released their final report investigating the proposed Digital Duty of Care legislation in Australia.
The report explores how the proposed Digital Duty of Care could reshape responsibility for online safety by placing greater responsibility on digital service providers to identify and address foreseeable risks arising from the design and operation of their services. It also considers whether this approach is equipped to address the evolving digital safety risks facing Australians.
The report is the culmination of six months of work by the NextGen Taskforce, chaired by Minh Hoang, bringing together research, case studies and perspectives on the potential implementation and impacts of the proposed legislation.
The Taskforce will present its findings at auIGF 2026, providing an opportunity to share its recommendations and conclusions and invite discussion from Australia’s Internet governance community.
